Egypt’s sprawling capital, Cairo is a colourful, chaotic whirlwind of a city that often tops the bucket list of history buffs and those wanting to experience the last remaining ancient Wonder of the World. Visitors flock to Cairo to see the pyramids rise above the sun-baked sands, and watch the Sphinx sitting magnificently under the clear blue sky – stay for a night or two in Giza for easy access, or you could spend a lot of time in the tourist traffic from the city.

A cruise down the River Nile is still one of the best ways to explore Egypt, including the architectural treasures around Aswan and Luxor.
