About Rennes

Please note - flights to this destination are offered in summer only.
Although Rennes is steeped in history, illustrated by its Gothic and medieval architecture and half-timbered houses, Rennes has a thoroughly modern and welcoming outlook. As the capital of one of France’s most individual provinces, Rennes has an abundance of character. Much of its centre is pedestrianised with plenty of shops to grab that gift or souvenir.
North of the Vilaine River, Rue d’Estrées, Rue d’Orléans and Rue la Motte Fablet all boast big-name brands, and you’ll find many of the smaller independent fashion boutiques in the city’s medieval core. Don’t miss the Saturday market (the Marché des Lices), it’s France’s second largest market and has been going since the 1600s.
Art lovers will want to see the city’s public art collection at the free-to-enter Musée des Beaux-Arts, which includes artworks by Picasso, Leonardo da Vinci, and Albrecht Dürer. Over the summer, there’s live music every Sunday at Thabor Park, a 10-hectare botanical garden - the perfect place for a picnic.
Brittany is renowned for its excellent cider and thoughtful French cooking. You’ll find something to suit all budgets here, from Michelin-starred restaurants to independent family bistros serving duck cassoulet. Street food comes in the form of the Breton crêpe, a galette or pancake garnished with sweet or savoury toppings.
