Back in Stuttgart itself, a wander through its streets will reveal a fascinating mixture of traditional medieval architecture next to examples of modern German design. Schlossplatz, Stuttgart’s central square, hosts open-air concerts and festivals over the summer, and sparkles with its enormous market at Christmas.

You’ll also find plenty of delicious food and drink during your visit. Sample the local street food specialities like Maultaschen (meat-filled pasta dumplings) and Zwiebelrostbraten (fried beef with onions) or treat yourself to a fine dining experience at a Michelin-starred restaurant.
